Bio
Shannon Curry began her working life among recruiters, but not as one of them. After two years of college, Shannon took a clerical position with a large search firm to help pay her tuition. Before long, Shannon was promoted to Office Manager. As her responsibilities with the company's Recruiters increased, she became increasingly confident she could excel at the position. Her first assignment came while her General Manager was away in May of '96. A new client called with a job order for a custom college textbook sales representative. Since there were no recruiters working a desk specialty close to publishing, she took the job order. Immediately, she was recruiting and made her first placement within 1 week and had 2 back-up candidates the client would have hired if he had more than one opening. She was awarded the 1996 Rookie of the Year award, and has been on top ever since.
Today, Shannon handles both contingency and retained searches for the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. She specializes in Government Affairs, Sales & Marketing, and Managed Care positions. Project Fulfillment is another area that Shannon has achieved substantial results with. She has placed as many as 300 people with one client in an amazing period of 4 months! Shannon adds that her success is due to continuous research, "judicious" identification and screening of candidates, and a consistent "custom" approach to meeting her client's requirements. Her clients have praised her for her ability to deliver quality candidates at short notice. She owes this to her tremendous drive, powerful work ethic and outstanding network of people throughout the United States.
Shannon left her initial employer and joined another firm in 1999. She started her own recruiting firm in late 2006 and is dedicated to the biotech industry. Initially, she never received formal training, except for regional meetings and the occasional speaker. "I picked up the phone and succeeded by trial and error." She says she learned by doing. Now she attends any training she can fit into her schedule to further hone her skills. Shannon says she locates her best candidates through cold calling, networking and by reviewing her lengthy roster of prior placements and keeping in touch with them regularly. She also says it is important to attend professional society meetings and trade shows in the pharmaceutical field, while at the same time keeping up with industry publications. She was voted into the Pinnacle Society in 2002.
